The problem with Kings and Queens

Could Microgaming finally be suffering from one innovation too many? The Os Man’s talking here about Kings and Queens, a decent enough 20-payline slot dragged down by an extra feature that surely will dampen this thing’s popularity.
On the face of it, Kings and Queens is yet another solid entry into the massive Microgaming catalogue with its sharp graphics, free spin rounds and bonus multipliers, but the problem is the introduction of the 2x/4x gamble option. While quite welcome in slower moving video poker variations, this tweak clearly does not belong in an online slot like this. Since the offer to double or quadruple your money comes after any winning spin, the results are poor indeed. Not only does this extra feature destroy any chance of autoplay (which, ahem, a great number of slots players employ), a slower connection will require a noticeable wait between the spin’s end and the option to gamble.
Now perhaps Microgaming wanted to see if slots players would hit that button after marginal wins, but surely all they’ll find is a not-so-mysterious tendency to play about 10 spins on this game before departing the scene.
How about an option to simply turn off the gamble feature? C’mon, Microgaming, the Os Man knows you geniuses could incorporate such a thing.
